Ukrainian Military Updates Rules for Foreign Recruits

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has introduced a new rule: foreign people who want to join their military must take a polygraph test. The new rule applies to all members who wish to serve with the Ukrainian Armed Forces, National Guard, or Special Transport Service.

The Defence Ministry got approval from the cabinet ministers for these new security rules. The ministry opened its testing centre just for foreign recruits and stateless people who want to join its forces. The centre works with defence and guard specialists to conduct the tests. The test will make everyone comfortable and conduct each candidate’s verification in their native language.

The Defence Ministry clearly states that everyone passes this test regardless of circumstance. This requirement applies to everyone who wants officer positions or will work with security services. If the military thinks someone hasn’t told them the whole truth about themselves or has doubts about anyone, those people will need to take the test, too.

Even people who are already in the military might need to take this test. If the Ukrainian security service or its military leaders think it’s required, the test helps ensure that everyone in the military can be trusted.

According to official requirements, people must sign an agreement before taking the test and be healthy enough for it. People not adhering to these rules will likely be excluded from military service. This requirement guarantees that all participants are willing and physically able to complete the screening process.

After this new policy begins, the Defence and Internal Affairs ministries must revise their rules within 30 days. The new process regulates how employment screening is conducted throughout military organisations.

This new method of background checks defends Ukraine’s military force while conforming to the identities of potential new members.
